Class of 2017 Updates

We are in the process of completing meetings with Juniors and their parent(s) to discuss college planning and/or other options for “Life after Westford Academy.” This meeting is very helpful in understanding this sometimes complicated process. If you have not scheduled a meeting yet, please contact your student’s guidance counselor ASAP by phone or email to set up this appointment. Remember when adding schools to your list of “Colleges I’m thinking about” double check each schools requirements for admission including required SAT subject tests – May and June deadlines for SAT registration are approaching. Whenever there is a question of individual school requirements call the admissions department at that prospective college or university.

Juniors who are considering applying to the University of California system should be aware of that the UC system has a Visual and Performing Arts requirement for all applicants, which can be satisfied in the following ways:
UC-approved high school courses

One yearlong course of visual and performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art AP or IB Examination

Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP History of Art, Studio Art or Music Theory Exam; score of 5, 6 or 7 on any one IB HL exam in Dance, Film, Music, Theatre Arts or Visual Arts

College courses
Grade of C or better in any transferable course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units that clearly falls within one of four visual/performing arts disciplines: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art

Many applications ask for transcripts, school profile, and additional forms to be completed by your guidance counselor. In order to assure that you completed application is submitted prior to the deadline we ask that you complete a “summer program application processing form”. Visit Mrs. Vernalia in the guidance office to obtain a form and return to your guidance counselor at least two weeks prior to the application due date.
