Class of 2017 Updates

We are in the process of completing meetings with Juniors and their parent(s) to discuss college planning and/or other options for “Life after Westford Academy.” This meeting is very helpful in understanding this sometimes complicated process. If you have not scheduled a meeting yet, please contact your student’s guidance counselor ASAP by phone or email to set up this appointment. Remember when adding schools to your list of “Colleges I’m thinking about” double check each schools requirements for admission including required SAT subject tests – May and June deadlines for SAT registration are approaching. Whenever there is a question of individual school requirements call the admissions department at that prospective college or university.

Juniors who are considering applying to the University of California system should be aware of that the UC system has a Visual and Performing Arts requirement for all applicants, which can be satisfied in the following ways:
UC-approved high school courses

One yearlong course of visual and performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art AP or IB Examination

Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP History of Art, Studio Art or Music Theory Exam; score of 5, 6 or 7 on any one IB HL exam in Dance, Film, Music, Theatre Arts or Visual Arts

College courses

Class of 2017 Updates: March 4

Dear Juniors & Junior Parents,

The Guidance office is buzzing with wonderfully productive college meetings! If you have not set up a meeting with your child’s counselor to discuss “Life After Westford Academy,” we recommend you contact him/her soon to set up a meeting. We like to complete these meetings before April break due to the school calendar, graduation, senior requirements, etc! This whole process will be completed in roughly 9 months, so it is important to meet now to begin to plan the months ahead. We would like to remind the students that you must complete “Junior Year Profile,” Cluster Finder, Personality survey, and at least one college search in Naviance before we meet. Please ensure there are a few colleges from that search saved in “Colleges I’m Thinking About.” It helps us as counselors to gear the meeting specifically towards the student’s goals.

As a reminder, the deadline to fill out the Junior Job Shadow Agreement form is next Friday March 11. The link can be found on the School to Careers website under Junior Job Shadow. In order to access the form, you will need to login using your westfordk12.us Google login. Please let your guidance counselor know if you have questions.

See previous posts for information on College Fairs, additional summer programs, and open house/information sessions at colleges. Use the labels, especially "class of 2017 updates" to find posts related to your child.
