 2017 SimpleTexting $1,000 College Scholarship Contest

For the 3rd year in a row, SimpleTexting is offering a $1,000 College Scholarship for a deserving high school senior or current college student. If you are currently enrolled in college or headed there in 2017-18 and want to win a $1,000 college scholarship to help cover expenses, consider entering the SimpleTexting College Scholarship Contest. SimpleTexting will award a $1,000 college scholarship to a highly motivated student who can thoughtfully express how their mobile device improves their lifestyle.

The Prompt:
In 800 words or less, tell us how your mobile device improves your life. You can touch on how texting connects us in a positive way (through communication with friends, family, church, work, etc.), the convenience of apps and mobile services, and/or significant achievements that your cellphone has helped you accomplish.

How to Enter:
  • Answer the prompt above in 800 words or less.
  • The file name should be your full name and date of birth. Example: John-Doe-1-15-1995.docx.
  • Email the Word document as an attachment to scholarships@SimpleTexting.com with your response. Use the subject line: 2017 SimpleTexting $1000 Scholarship
  • Submission must be received by midnight on December 15, 2017.
Here’s How You Win:
  • Send us your response, following the guidelines above.
  • We will pick a winner by January 10, 2018, and notify you. (It’s subjective; we’re going to pick our favorite response.)

NACAC Video Essay Contest - sponsored by zeemee

Video Essay Contest - sponsored by zeemee

Are you an 11th or 12th grader in the Boston area? Or are you a Massachusetts community college student? Then you’re eligible to participate in a video essay contest sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and its Inclusion, Access, and Success Committee. As an association of nearly 16,000 members dedicated to helping students consider all their options after high school, NACAC holds the contest each year to showcase the talents of students in our conference city and help ease students’ financial transition to higher education.

$20,000 in scholarships will be awarded, with $5,000 for the top-place submission. The winners will be recognized at NACAC’s 73rd National Conference, Sept.14-16, 2017, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The deadline to submit your video is June 1.

You only need a camera phone (or camera) and your creativity to enter!


How to Enter
  1. Create a video in response to the following prompt: Why is continuing your education after high school important to you?
  2. Video entries must include the following at some point: "My name is ___________ and I'm ______________ (junior or senior) from _____________ (high school) in ___________ (town).” OR  "My name is ___________ and I'm a student at_____________ (community college) in ___________ (town).”
  3. Video entries should be no more than 2 minutes in length.
  4. Video entries must be created by an individual student. No joint entries (video created by two or more students) will be considered.
  5. Submissions are limited to one video per student, and all videos must be submitted via ZeeMee.
  6. To submit your video your must do two things. First, create a free account at www.zeemee.com. Include your first and last name so we know who you are, and then upload your video entry in the Meet Me Video section of your ZeeMee page. Student accounts should be set to private.

    Then, after you upload your video to ZeeMee, fill out our submission form. You must complete both steps in order to be eligible for the contest.
  7. All videos must be uploaded to ZeeMee on or before June 1.
Submissions
Students from all backgrounds and academic preparation are encouraged to apply. Your submission should be well-thought out and prepared—similar to the preparation that would go into writing a school paper—with the freedom to showcase your voice and talents. Be yourself, show your creative side!
 
Additional Tips

  • If you use your cell phone, be sure to film in landscape. If you film in portrait, your video will be sideways and people will have to tilt their heads to watch.
  • Don’t speak too fast. You want us to understand what you are saying.
  • Speak clearly and confidently. This is your time to shine. Engage us!
  • Have fun! Although this is a contest, it should be an enjoyable experience for you as well.

Video Evaluation Criteria
Videos will be evaluated on the following criteria and given a mark on a scale of 0-5 (0 being absent and 5 being extraordinary).

  1. Ideas Development (5 points) - Did you answer the question? Are your ideas well explained?
  2. Thoughtfulness (5 points) - Do we get a sense of who you are, a window to your world? Do you demonstrate self-awareness and awareness of others?
  3. Clarity/Effectiveness (5 points) - Can we see how your ideas are connected? Can we understand the thoughts you are trying to convey?
  4. Quality (5 points) - Submission is well-thought out and prepared.
  5. Creativity (5 points) - Are your ideas presented in an interesting, creative, or otherwise appropriate way?

Acton Toyota of Littleton Scholarship

Seniors -

The application for the Acton Toyota Scholarship has been updated on Naviance, under "Scholarship List".  All students must turn in their applications (application form and essay) no later than Friday, May 12th to their school’s guidance office in order to be considered for the scholarship donation.
Acton Toyota of Littleton will review all applications and announce the scholarship winner on its website on Wednesday, May 31st. Actual grant or payment will be made directly to the high school’s scholarship fund. Through this fund, the three charitable scholarship donations will be given to the winning students.

Pirandello Lyceum of Greater Boston Scholarship is seeking qualified high school students for its annual scholarships.  Applicants should be college-bound high school seniors with high academic averages, high SAT scores, involvement in extracurricular activities and financial need.  We are especially seeking students who have studied the Italian language, intend to study Italian in college, or wish to spend their junior year abroad in Italy.

SVCF is accepting applications for Juniper Networks Engineering Scholarship now!  The application deadline is 3:00 p.m. (PST). March 10, 2017 
$5,000 scholarship with students who intend to pursue a STEM degree at a four-year college in the upcoming fall.

To apply students must:

STEP 1:  Register and login to https://apply.siliconvalleycf.org/  to complete a student profile to access the Juniper Networks Engineering Scholarship application

STEP 2:  Get these materials ready for their application:

1.       A personal statement

Title the statement with your full name and date at the top of every page. Your personal statement must be 300-850 words, double-spaced (approximately 1-3 pages), and must address the following prompts:

·         Discuss your intended major and career goals within the specific STEM field that you are interested in, and any factors that influenced your interest in that area.

·         Comment on your personal characteristics, the educational and extracurricular activities that have helped prepare you for a major and career in your specific field of interest within STEM.

·         Reflect on your personal journey (significant accomplishments, challenges and/or hardships) and any life lessons that you think will help you succeed in your stated major and profession.

·         Describe why you believe you are a good candidate for this scholarship.

2.       Obtain official transcripts of grades (both digital and hard copy)

3.       Request two letters of recommendation

4.       Gather financial need documents (complete and upload the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Report (SAR))

NEACRAO Scholarship Opportunity

Each year, the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers awards scholarships to three high school graduates who will be enrolling in a NEACRAO member institution for the fall semester of that year. Each recipient of the scholarship is selected from candidates who are recommended by New England secondary school guidance professionals. Each student who is selected receives $2000 upon proof of enrollment in an NEACRAO member institution.

PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATIONS
Scholarship applications must be submitted by March 15, 2017. The NEACRAO Scholarship Committee will review all scholarship applications that are post-marked by March 15th. Submit an essay for NEACAC’s Annual Essay Contest. Students from NEACAC-member high schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont are invited to submit a 500-word essay on the following topic:

Describe a counselor, teacher, or coach who has had the greatest influence on your decision to attend college. How has this individual impacted your future? What will you do in college or beyond that will make a difference in your community?

There will be six winners – one from each of the New England States – who will each be awarded a $1000 Scholarship. The application for the Essay Contest for 2017 will open on February 1, 2017 and will be available through April 8, 2017. 2017 James E.McGarry, Jr. Scholarship

The Northern Bank & Trust Charitable Foundation, Inc. (the Foundation) is pleased to announce the 2017 James E.McGarry, Jr. Scholarship.

The scholarship honors Mr. McGarry, a former Woburn resident, for his 50 years of service to Northern Bank &Trust Company. It also pays tribute to his lifelong affinity for the fire and police departments in his community. Over the decades, Mr. McGarry served with the Woburn Auxiliary Fire Department, founded the Independent Fire Association of Woburn, and was active with the Massachusetts Antique Fire Apparatus Association. He was one of the founders of the Annual Lynnfield Fire Muster. Mr. McGarry also treasured his close friendships with many of the city’s police officers and fire fighters throughout the years. He admired the men and women who serve our community each and every day. This scholarship is the Foundation’s way of thanking our deserving public safety partners in his memory.

The $5,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior with a parent or legal guardian who is an active firefighter or police officer employed in one of the following communities in Middlesex County: Acton, Arlington, Ashby, Ashland, Ayer, Bedford, Belmont, Billerica, Boxborough, Burlington, Cambridge, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Dracut, Dunstable, Everett, Framingham, Groton, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Lowell, Malden, Marlborough, Maynard, Medford, Melrose, Natick, Newton, North Reading, Pepperell, Reading, Sherborn, Shirley, Somerville, Stoneham, Stow, Sudbury, Tewksbury, Townsend, Tyngsboro,
Wakefield, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Westford, Weston, Wilmington, Winchester, and Woburn.

Eligible students must have been accepted for admission to an accredited college or university. The award will be based on a combination of academic achievement, community involvement, and an essay. The Cohen & Jaffe Law Office would like to offer a great scholarship opportunity to your students. This scholarship was created to assist education costs for graduating seniors.

There are two prizes available- first place will be awarded $1,000, second place awarded $500, and three honorable mentions available at $250 each. For this contest students most compose an essay of no less than 500 words and no more than 750 words. There are two topics that applicants can write about:

These awards require a separate audition or portfolio.  The application deadline for these awards is March 1, and the awards range from $1,000 - $2,500 per year or more.

Scholarship Opportunities

Journalism Education Foundation of New England will award a number of $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and college students in our six-state region who plan to pursue a career in journalism. This is a wonderful program that encourages and supports those who will staff and lead our news organizations into the next generation.

Students from your school are eligible for these scholarships - we urge you to encourage your aspiring journalists to apply! This program usually draws a modest number of applicants, so your students' chances of being selected are quite good.

Interested students can download the scholarship application from our New England Newspaper & Press Association website www.nenpa.com. The deadline for applications is March 3, 2017.

 The Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship was established to open the academic doors today for our business leaders of tomorrow. The Chamber believes in its mission statement: "to promote business and improve the quality of life in the region it serves." To that end, the Scholarship program has a twofold goal to enhance our community's quality of life by:

·         preparing an educated citizenry for responsible roles within the workforce to strengthen the economic vitality of our region

·         creating a corporate citizenship to promote the importance of community service and participation in community affairs

The Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship will recognize students whose educational and career goals are committed to those principles. Hood Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship

The Hood® Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship Program awards 18 New England high school student athletes with a $5,000 scholarship toward furthering their education at a two- or four- year accredited college or university.

For more than 160 years, Hood® Milk has been at the heart of families and communities across New England. Hood is proud to be able to give 18 student athletes an opportunity to win a $5,000 college scholarship.


To be eligible, high school seniors must have displayed a high degree of sportsmanship while participating in a varsity high school sport. These students also must have earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community.

Students will be asked to write an essay explaining how they display sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field.

Each student who meets the standards in the official rules and completes the essay will be featured on an online voting site. The ten students from each New England state who receive the most votes will be interviewed by a select panel of judges.

The panel of judges will then select three students from each of the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont) as the scholarship winners. Winners will be honored at a banquet and entered into the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship Hall of Fame.

Applicants must enter by 3 p.m. EST on March 6, 2017. Voting begins at 9 a.m. EDT on March 27, 2017, and ends at 3 p.m. EDT on April 10, 2017.

Scholarship Opportunity from Rivier

John and Abigail Adams Recipients qualify for the Rivier Adams Achievement Scholarship

Rivier University will award scholarships in the amount of $2000 to first-time students entering in the fall of 2017 who have been awarded the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. This is a one-time only award to honor and acknowledge the hard work and achievement of students in Massachusetts.  

To apply, students will need to submit an electronic copy of their scholarship letter to admissions@rivier.edu no later than February 1, 2017.  Students will also be required to submit the FAFSA with a priority deadline of March 1, 2017.
