College Essay Guy Virtual College Road Trip

During this free event, you’ll have the chance to hear from different colleges and universities from across the U.S., and in Canada, Japan, Spain, Australia and the U.K. You can choose which colleges you want to hear from by registering for their sessions. And you can ask questions of the college representatives too!

  • Connect with over 80 colleges and universities from around the world
  • Join me in the opening session as I share How to Develop a Preliminary College List in Under an Hour (and yes, you will literally leave this session with a prelim list of schools)
  • Ask a Counselor Zoom Session: Ask our brilliant college counselors anything you want from 4-6:45pm PT
  • 6X6 format: 6 schools present for 6 minutes each (super efficient way of getting to know colleges/universities)
  • Book giveaway at the end of the opening session

Class of 2022 Summer To Do List

 Juniors (or should we say SENIORS!),


As we close out this school year, we wanted to remind you of your summer “to do” list.  Remember, we are not trying to ruin your summer!  Our expectation is that you complete the items below to make the college application process more manageable in the fall.


Below are the videos we have sent out to help start out this process. The first is general information that provides a good overview of timelines and expectations. The second is tips from the Guidance Department on getting started with your college essay.

Stay informed:

  • Check out the College Process Timeline on the WA Guidance website (under College Planning Resources and Guidance Timelines)

  • Guidance Blog: http://waguidance.blogspot.com - sign up for email updates using the Follow by Email box on the right hand side.

  • Join the Class of 2022 Guidance Google classroom - opu7opf

  •  Download the SCOIR app and enable push notifications



Summer To-Do List:

  • Email/Forward your counselor your teacher’s email confirmation to write your letter of recommendation

  • Continue college research and virtual or in person visits

  • Complete a draft of your essay

  • Work on Common Application: www.commonapp,org - becomes “live” on August 1 (accounts already created will rollover).

  •  Open and start completing individual college supplements in the Common App after August 1

  • Complete Senior Data Sheet (emailed out and in My Drive in Scoir): Class of 2022 Senior Data Sheet

  • Create/update your Activities/Awards in SCOIR and/or a resume


Parents/guardians: There is an optional parent questionnaire available for you to complete in your SCOIR account under Surveys. If you would like to answer any/all questions, please plan to do so prior to September 6.

Rice University Virtual Information Session

 

Encourage them to attend our Virtual Information Session for students from New Jersey, New York and New England! They'll get the chance to hear from an admission counselor for their region as they talk about Rice's academic programs, groundbreaking research, vibrant student life and the affordability of Rice. Or, they can sign up for a session that works with their schedule. You're welcome to attend, as well - we hope to see you and your students there!
