Cornerstone Summer Institute at University of Virginia provides rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to engage in historical investigation, archaeological excavation, and community engagement in order to learn and develop thinking skills that will prepare them for success in college and beyond.
Designed by members of the University of Virginia President’s Commission on Slavery and the University, the institute encourages critical thinking while students learn about both the University’s past and the modern-day legacies of slavery. Students explore the early history of the University by getting hands-on experience with archival records, by rolling up their sleeves on an archaeological dig where enslaved people lived and worked, and by learning–through community engagement–how the U.Va. story had an impact on the surrounding area. Students, in addition to collegiate skill-building, get the full U.Va. experience–living in dorms, eating in dining halls, meeting new friends, and exploring the Jefferson-designed school.

Case Western Reserve University Summer Programs
Case Western Reserve University’s Pre-Collegiate Summer Programs fully immerse ambitious high school students (like you!) in a college curriculum for three weeks. You’ll experience conversations and activities just like our own undergraduates. Courses are taught by CWRU faculty, and you’ll live on campus, eat in the dining hall and take full advantage of the culture and inspiration of our location in Cleveland’s University Circle neighborhood.

Imagine learning the foundations and future of science directly from today’s top scientists. Go beyond the classroom and join scientists in the places and spaces where they do their own research: genomics labs, physics experiments, geological strata, astronomical observatories, paleontology collections and fieldwork, virtual and augmented reality facilities and beyond. Students with a deep interest in social action around issues of local, national and global importance will find in this course a forum and laboratory for impactful scholarship and engagement. Spend three weeks in our seven-story innovation center and see what you can do. This is the space that makes our students entrepreneurs and innovators. You will dream, design and build. And learn a lot along the way.

BU SummerLab provides students with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of basic techniques and concepts associated with biotechnology and DNA science. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based program during which students work cooperatively in laboratories at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Students can choose from two week-long programs. Clinical Connection is focused on exploring medical research and techniques. This hands-on week introduces the use of cutting edge technology to research disease and the processes involved in the development of clinical trials for potential treatments. DNA, Genes, and Drug Production is focused on the central concepts and skills of recombinant DNA technology as it applies to biotechnology. The use of green fluorescent protein (GFP) allows students to visualize the processes of gene expression, lysis, and purification.
SummerLab is offered as either a residential program or a commuter program (for students in the Greater Boston area) and is accessible to students with disabilities.

New England Center for Investigative Reporting will continue to host its Boston University Summer Journalism Institute. By Making Boston Their Beat, our program offers students an opportunity to build a solid foundation in journalistic writing and become better storytellers while reporting the facts.
Based at Boston University's College of Communication, students will attend a college-level writing class in the morning. In the afternoon, they are assigned to newsrooms to work with award-winning journalists, such as Pulitzer winner Lara Salahi, as their editors to cover different stories – entertainment, politics, sports, metro and investigations – in the Boston area. Evening events range from guest lectures from local journalists at The Boston Globe Spotlightteam, WGBH, and WBUR, to tours of historic sites and museums such as Fenway Park and the Museum of Fine Arts.
Our two-week workshops begin on June 24, July 8, and July 22. At the end of each session, your student will walk away with:
  • Articles to add to their professional portfolio;
  • A unique experience to write about on their college application essay;
  • New friends;
  • An appreciation of journalism and the confidence to use their voice to tell stories in their communities.
We accept applications on a rolling basis, but strongly encourage students to apply early to secure their seat.
Limited financial aid is available for students who demonstrate financial need; an application for financial aid is emailed to students once they are accepted into the program. The deadline to apply for financial aid is April 1, 2019. We also have a special $400 discount offer for students who register and pay by March 15, 2019
For more information about our program, visit our website and our FAQ section. We encourage you to share this with your students and their families.
The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C Pre-College Program
June 23-28
This residential program is intended for rising high school freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors as well as 2019 high school graduates looking for a pre-college experience. See our website here.

The program we are offering: is Applied Math in Action!,  an action-packed week with math sessions each day in subjects outside the normal high school curriculum, so they are accessible to all levels: cryptography, game theory, modelling rocket trajectories & more,  as well as invited speakers and other educational activities.  It will also feature several fun excursions around Washington, D.C. and allow students to experience a week of college life on our beautiful campus. Because our math topics are outside the normal series of mathematics topics taught in high school, students do not need advanced coursework to participate, but only an interest in mathematics and STEM.

If you or a student would like more information, go to our website at math.cua.edu/applied-math-in-action.
